Obituary: Betty Ruth Chesser, 83, Bardstown

Betty Ruth Chesser, 83, of Bardstown, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, at Signature Healthcare in Taylorsville. She was born July 11, 1933, in Bardstown to the late Oscar and Nora Goff Peavler. She was a retired employee of American Greetings and was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther C. Chesser; one daughter, Phyllis Gail Chesser; two sisters, Bonnie Mathis and Ressie Kays; and five brothers, Vyron Peavler, R.C. Peavler, Lorraine Peavler, Eugene Peavler, and Loval Lee Peavler.

She is survived by one daughter, Sue Matus (Arch) McKay of Bardstown; one son, Brian (Therese) Chesser of Bardstown; two sisters, Doris Hardin of Cox’s Creek and Birdie Marksbury of Fairfield; four grandchildren, Leslie Kulig, David Matus, Zachary Chesser and Jacob Chesser; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home in Bardstown with burial in the Bardstown Cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at the funeral home.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
