Charles Edward Burris, 86, of Cox’s Creek, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, surrounded by his family. He finished his work here and went home to be with Jesus.

CHARLES EDWARD BURRIS

He was “Charley” to everyone who knew him. He embodied grit, resilience and strength of character. His handshake was his bond. According to Scripture, he is now living, for all eternity with his Savior, and is in the presence of all those saved loved ones who’ve gone before.

He was born June 20, 1940, in Louisville to the late Chester Lee and Ruby Burris.

He was a member of the first graduating class of Suda E. Butler High School, the Class of 1958. He retired from K & I Railroad and later owned Kramer’s Lane Auto Parts, Amen Auto Parts, and the Bullitt Co. Stockyards.

His love for the Wild West turned a dream into a reality as he took on the job of peacemaker in his own western town, the Town of Broken Wheel.

He loved the Lord and served Him faithfully for many years, pastoring Lighthouse Baptist Church, and later, as a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church.

He loved his family, and anyone else he spent 5 minutes with.

He loved life and he lived it out loud. He embracing every day with a smile and a purpose — to make the world a better place.

Wherever he was, stories happened. He truly knew how to enjoy life, and if you spent any time with him at all, you enjoyed life, as well.

He fought a good fight. He finished his course. He kept the faith, and today, because of what Christ did on Calvary’s Cross, he is enjoying the rest promised to him by the Lord.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jane and Anita and one brother, Lee.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judy; their children: Lynda and Joe, Dana and Jeff; grandchildren: Janna and Jerry, Megan and Jonathan; great-grandchildren, Braeden and Landen; his brother, Don, his aunt Dee Dee, and a host of nephews, nieces, loved ones and friends.

The funeral is noon Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home in Shepherdsville with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens West.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026, and 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, at the funeral home.

The Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
