
James Walter Bowman, 94, of Cox’s Creek, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at his home. He was born April 11, 1919, in Wolfe County. He was a lifelong farmer, and a member of New Salem Baptist Church where he was a former trustee, choir member and deacon emeritus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Henderson “J.H.” and Madgie Peck Bowman; eight brothers and sisters; and one great-grandchild.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Irene Bowman; one daughter, M. Walene (Bobby) Hardin of Cox’s Creek; one son, Larry (Brenda) Bowman of Cox’s Creek; one sister, Fern Taylor of Gratis, Ohio; one brother, Jesse Bowman Jr. of Taylorsville; four grandchildren, Eric Bowman, Tad Bowman, Karen Bradshaw and Tracy St. Clair; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at New Salem Baptist Church with Bro. Jonathon Gann officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, and Friday, Oct. 6, 2013, at the church prior to the funeral.
