John H. Lewis, 82, of Bardstown, died Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, at Baptist Health Louisville. He was born Oct. 28, 1943, in Cox’s Creek to the late Everett and Nora Bell Mattingly Lewis.
He was a retired employee of Ford Motor Co. Kentucky Truck Plant. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church. He loved westerns and was an avid fan of UK basketball, football, the Dallas Cowboys and the Cincinnati Reds. He loved his wife and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Georgena Lewis; four sisters, Virginia Lewis, Emma Jean Summit, Kathleen Clark and Betty Carolyn Gilpin; and three brothers, William Lewis, Andrew Lewis and Jake Lewis.
He is survived by one son, Robbie (Kimberly) Lewis of Bardstown; two stepsons, Todd (Loretta) Hayden and David Hayden, both of Hawesville; two sisters, Ann Elizabeth Hayden and Dottie Hood (Sam Young), both of Bardstown; one brother, Bobby Lewis of Fairfield; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with Bro. Ray Johnson officiating. Burial is in Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, and 9-10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, at the funeral home.
