Obituary: Joseph Charles “Joe” Kelty, 82, Manton

Joseph Charles “Joe” Kelty, 82, of Manton, died Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was born April 3, 1944, in Marion County. He was a farmer and a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Manton. He was a former employee of INOAC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Buckman and Rose Catherine Mattingly Kelty; two sisters, Mary Catherine Stahl and Jean Mattingly; and three brothers, Robert Anthony Kelty, Thomas Kelty Jr. and John Edward “Jack” Kelty.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Mattingly Kelty; two daughters, Christy Renee Chesser of Liberty and Tahmara Nycole Kelty of Manton; two sons, Charles Thomas Kelty of Manton and James David Riggs Jr. (Holly Medley) of Springfield; seven sisters, Ann Stillwell and June Slack, both of Louisville, Vickie Kelty of Springfield, Rosey Kelty and Brenda Spalding (Doug), both of Lebanon, Louise Nalley (Jackie) of Georgia and Mary Lillie Hill (Johnny) of Loretto; two brothers, Mike Kelty of Loretto and Frank Kelty of Holy Cross; 13 grandchildren, Thomas Logan Chesser, Waylen Garrett Chesser, Alexander Wayne Riggs, Zoey Elizabeth Beebe, Dalton Clyde Beebe, Railyn Beebe, Haylee Alexis Medley, Isabel Danielle Medley, Josey Brooke Medley, Quin Nicole Medley, Charles Ethan Thomas Kelty, Jason Anthony Kelty and London Chanel Kelty; and two great-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Manton. Rev. Augustine Judd, O.P., will officiate. Cremation will follow.

Memorial donations may go toward funeral expenses.

Pallbearers are Tommy Kelty, Matthew Medley, Matthew Osborne, David Taylor, Frankie Taylor, Robbie Smith, Kevin Taylor and Larry Stahl.

Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
