Joseph Marion “Turtle” Downs, 77, of Bardstown, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at his home. He was born July 15, 1936, in Fairfield. He was a retired employee of Medusa and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Denise Ebersold; his parents, Verlin and Mary Downs; and one brother, Junior Downs.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Louise Downs; five daughters, Karen (Mike) Taylor, Susan Ratliff, Laura (Todd) Durbin, Carlene (Bryan) Downs, and Tonya (Richie) Kays, all of Bardstown; two sons, David (Cheryl) Downs and Richard Downs, both of Bardstown; two brothers, Edmund “Burlap” (Barbara) Downs and J.W. (Catherine) Downs; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Friday March 7, 2014, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fredericktown with burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Bardstown. The Rev. Matthew Hardesty will officiate.
Visitation is 2–8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, and 9–10:15 a.m.. Friday, March 7, 2014, at Barlow Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may go to masses or The American Cancer Society.
