Obituary: Lizzie Mae Crowe, 89, Bardstown

LIZZIE MAE CROWE

Lizzie Mae Crowe, 89, of Bardstown, died Monday, May 9, 2016, at her residence. She was born Feb. 8, 1927, to the late Fred Sr. and Virgie Ritchie Maddox. She was a homemaker who assisted many mothers in the community with care of their children. She was a member of St. John AME Zion Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Phillip Crowe Jr.; two daughters, Elizabeth Crowe Knott and Mary Crowe; one son, Joseph Phillip Crowe III; three brothers, Fred Maddox Jr., Jerdon Lee Thomas and John Ed Maddox; and one granddaughter, Karia Crowe.

She is survived by four daughters, Nancy Crowe of Memphis, Tenn., Catherine Freeman, Mary Ann Crowe, and Charlene Crowe, all of Bardstown; five sons, Gary Crowe of Louisville, Pat Crowe, Robert Crowe and Emanuel Crowe, all of Bardstown, and John Frank Crowe of Shepherdsville; one sister, Mildred Cosby of Bardstown; 31 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral is 1 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2016, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Roscoe Linton officiating. Burial is in the Bardstown Cemetery.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at the church.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, Bardstown, is in charge of arrangements.
