Marshall Irvin “Marty” Simpson Jr., 70, of Bardstown, died peacefully Saturday, May 9, 2015, at his home. He was born June 19, 1944, in Bardstown. He was a retired aircraft mechanic in Phoenix, Ariz. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of DeMolay, Masonic Duvall Lodge # 6, and the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He had a huge heart made of gold, and was known for being one of the kindest men in town. Without a doubt, his greatest joy was his daughter and grandchildren; but keep a lookout for him at his favorite local pastimes, Holt’s Campground and karaoke night.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marshall Irvin Simpson Sr.; one sister, Connie Werner; and one brother, Ronnie Simpson.
He is survived by one daughter, Sarah (Denver) Nowicz of Peoria, Ariz.; four stepchildren, Amy Jones, Lucy Jex, Michael Connolly, all of Peoria, Ariz., and Beth Connolly of Kalispel, Mont.; his mother, Gladys Simpson of Bardstown; two sisters, Shirley Davis, and Peggy Wathen, both of Bardstown; two brothers, Kenny Simpson and Bobby Simpson, both of Bardstown; two grandchildren, Russell Nowicz, and Natalie Nowicz, both of Peoria, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the First Christian Church (D.O.C.) with burial in the Bardstown Cemetery with Dr. Rick Loader officiating.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Barlow Funeral Home and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the First Christian Church (D.O.C.).
Memorial contributions may go to the First Christian Church building loan or the American Cancer Society.
