Obituary: Martha Ann Clark, 87, Saint Francis

Martha Ann Downs Clark, 87, of Saint Francis died peacefully in her daughter’s home surrounded by her family on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026. She was born on Nov. 8, 1938 in Balltown.

She was known to be a prayer warrior, and absolutely adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also a fantastic cook, creating meals for her family was a joy. Even wrangling a few rattlesnakes in her day. Most of all, she found enjoyment in feeding and watching her birds.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Downs; her husband, William “Bill” Clark; and three siblings, Regina Roberts, Joseph Downs, and Rita Riordan.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Nadine Thompson (John), Colleen Spalding (Joe), Paulette Clark, Rebecca Greenwell (Joey), June Hartman (Kevin), Mark Clark (Lou Ann), and Lee Clark (Debbie); 12 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026 at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with Father Richard Goodin officiating. Interment followed in Saint Catherine Cemetery in New Haven.

Pallbearers are grandsons: Logan Clark, Frank Spalding, Travis Thompson, Tyler Clark, Kyle Clark, Ryan Clark, and Clark Spalding.
