Obituary: Martha M. Newton, 86, Boston

Martha M. Newton, 86, of Boston, passed away Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, at her residence. She was born Feb. 1, 1940, in Cox’s Creek to the late Harvey Baxter Hayden Sr., and Lucille Goben Hayden. Martha was a homemaker who loved to make fudge at Christmas time to share with her family; she was a great cook. She also was a very creative person who loved painting and ceramics. Martha was a member of Bardstown Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ruby McGee and her brother, Harvey “Junie” Hayden, Jr.

Martha is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Norman Newton, Jr., her daughters, Annetta (Keith) Bevill of Smyrna, TN, and Susan (Greg) Clark of Murfreesboro, TN, her sister, Shirley Edwards of Richmond, her sister-in-law, Wanda Hayden, her grandchildren, Eric Bevill, Aaron Bevill, Jacob Clark, and Anna Clark, and her favorite baby dog, Ellie.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Martha M. Newton will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Little Brick Cemetery in Boston. Visitation for Martha will be held Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and will resume Thursday after 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
