Mary Benita “Bonnie” Newton, 64, of Lexington, died Monday, Sept. 30, 
2013, at her family homestead in Bardstown. She was born March 30, 1949, in Louisville and was a retired teacher for University of Kentucky. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Newton; her parents, Harold and Benita Dickerson Filiatreau; one brother, Lenny Filiatreau; one nephew, Eric Gutierres; and one great-niece, Brittany Bartley.
She is survived by five sisters, Cathy (David) Kerr of Elizabethtown, Pat (Kelvin) Gutierres, Mary Jo (Rick) Meyer, Sheila (David) McDonald, and Renee Hopper, all of Bardstown; two brothers, Bob (Lisa) Filiatreau and Roger (Melissa) Filiatreau, both of Bardstown; 16 nieces and nephews; and 25 great-nieces and great-nephews.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 3–8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, and 9–10:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Barlow Funeral Home. A prayer service is Wednesday evening.
Memorial contributions may go to Kosair Children’s Hospital.
