Robert A. Smith, 83, of Bardstown, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, at Robley Rex VA Medical Center. He was born July 31, 1932 in Akron, Ohio. He was a Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War. He served as editor of the Brownstown Banner in Brownstown, Ind. He also worked for Alcoa,Celanese Corp., Bird & Son, Woodbridge – Inoac, and was owner of Sweets and Things. He was a member of the Bardstown United Methodist Church. He loved gardening and he was an avid bowler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Thelma Smith; and one sister, Carolyn Leo.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nell Smith of Bardstown; two daughters, Jill (Larry) McCulloch of Clinton, Ohio, and Lori (Jeff) Schroeder of Bardstown; one son, Bob (Mary) Smith of Westerville, Ohio; one granddaughter, Melissa Cody; and one great-grandson, Cody Burdette.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, at Barlow Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may go to Bardstown United Methodist Church Building Fund.
