Roger Alan Thurman, 69, of Taylorsville, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, at Signature Healthcare of South Louisville. He was born January 5, 1957 in Portsmouth, Ohio to Johnny Bruce and Bonnie Louise Howard Thurman.
He was a retired employee of Kroger in Shelbyville and also worked at Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home in Taylorsville for numerous years. He was a member of Taylorsville First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for many years and also attended Open Door Christian Center where he served as a pianist.
He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Bruce Thurman;, his brother, Richard Lee Thurman, and a nephew, Jeremy Matthew Rockwell.
He is survived by his children, Joshua (Lauren) Thurman, Rebecca (Jason) Hall, both of Taylorsville, Sarah (Clayton) Sutton of Simpsonville, his mother, Bonnie Louise Thurman of Shelbyville, 2 sisters, Brenda Thurman of Shelbyville and Linda Shelton of Mocksville, NC., 8 grandchildren, Hailey (Conner) Curtsinger, James Hall, Liam Hall, Ethan Thurman, Maci Sutton, Jack Sutton, Jay Thurman, Levi Thurman, and 1 great grandchild, Truman Curtsinger.
A graveside service for Mr. Roger Alan Thurman will be 10:00 am Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at Big Spring Cemetery. Sister Mavis Bennett will officiate.
The Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements.
