Shirley Rosen Boone, 82, formerly of New Haven, died Monday, July 1, 2019, at home with her family by her side. She was born in New Haven on Nov. 25, 1936, to Nick and Stella Boone. She attended school at St. Catherine in New Haven. For the past 12 years she was a parishioner of St. Joseph Basilica in Bardstown. Over a span of 40 years Shirley’s teaching career took her to Memphis, Tenn., Stoneham, Mass., Greenville, S.C. and Clearwater, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Murray Rosen; her parents, Nick and Stella Boone; and one brother, Charles Boone.
She is survived by three sisters, Rose Goodin of Lexington, Jeanette (Michael) Quigley of Bardstown, and Cecilia (Bob) Boone of Howardstown; four brothers, Harold Boone and Nicholas (Lynn) Boone, both of New Haven, Marvin (Patty) Boone of Bardstown, and Stephen (Martha) Boone of Louisville.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2019, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw officiating. Burial is in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Cemetery in New Hope.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2019, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with a 5 p.m. prayer service.
The family requests expressions of sympathy be made in the offering of Masses.
