Obituary: Sr. Denise Mueting, OP, 87

Dominican Sister of Peace Denise Mueting, OP (87), a native of Seneca, Kansas, died on July 28, 2026, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, Kentucky. Sr. Denise is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Leo and Dick, and sister Marie.

She is survived by nine brothers and sisters – Mary Lee Beckman, Thomas (Audrey) Mueting, Elaine (Boyd) Brown, Janet (Lester) Fangman, Gladys (John) Rottinghaus, Patricia (Bob) Claas, Helen Mueting, OSB, Rita (Ron) Potter and Darla Mueting, along with many cousins.
A Dominican for 67 years, Sr. Denise earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Sacred Heart College (Wichita, KS) and a Master of Arts in Education from Cardinal Stritch College (Milwaukee, WI). She ministered as a grade schoolteacher in Clonmel, Willowdale, Great Bend, and Hutchinson, KS as well as Westminster, CO.

After taking a year out to work with the Active Spirituality Program in Cincinnati, OH, she came back to Kansas to teach primary grades in Garden City and Haysville. Sr. Denise eventually returned to Colorado to minister at the Archdiocesan Housing and The Gardens at St. Elizabeth Retirement Center in Denver. She remained there until she retired and returned home to the Great Bend Kansas Motherhouse in 2020.

In 2026, Sr. Denise moved from Great Bend, Kansas to Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, ), where she began a ministry of prayer and presence.

The reception of the Body will be held at 4 p.m. followed by the Vigil Service and Sharing of Memories at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4, in the Chapel of the Plains, Great Bend Motherhouse. The Mass of Resurrection will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5 followed by burial in the Resurrection Cemetery. Arrangements in Kansas are handled by Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend.

In Kentucky, arrangements were handled by Hale–Polin–Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield. The sharing of memories followed by a Memorial Mass will begin at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Sansbury Care Center Chapel.
