Obituary: Theresa Mouser Owens, 70, Lexington, formerly of Bardstown

Theresa Mouser Owens, 70, of Lexington, died peacefully Thursday, May 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and friends after bravely battling pancreatic cancer for 2-1/2 years.

She was born June 12, 1955, in Bardstown. She was the cherished daughter of John and Verna Mouser. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose strength, grace, faith, and love left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.

She was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of St. Thomas More parish in Paducah and continued practicing her faith at the Newman Center in Lexington.

She was known for her unwavering faith, beauty, and strength. She enjoyed playing tennis, decorating, and working out. She cherished spending time with her family and created a home filled with love, tradition, and warmth. Her family was the heart of her life, and she took immense pride in her children and grandchildren. Beyond her family, she was an active member of various clubs and organizations including the Paducah Charity League, Prestwick Garden Club, Lexington Decorating Club and the Jewel Box Racing Group. She was a dedicated hospice volunteer in Paducah.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the UK Markey Cancer Center, Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute, hospice caregivers, friends, and family for their unwavering love, care, and support throughout her journey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Verna Mouser; and four siblings, Mary Martha Mouser, Cheri Martha Mouser, Terry Arthur Mouser, and Libby Greenwell.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Mark Lane Owens; one daughter, Emily Ann Owens of Lexington; one son, John Lane (Angela) Owens of Lexington; one sister, Annie (Doug) Shirley of Lexington; five brothers, John Anthony Jr. (Carol) Mouser of Lawrenceville, Ga.; Fred Marion (Connie) Mouser of New Haven; David Greenwell of Cox’s Creek; and Phillip Bruner (Jeannie) Mouser and Jerry Arthur (Amy) Mouser, both of Bardstown; two grandchildren, Charleston and Blanton Owens, all of Lexington; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2026, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in New Haven with burial in the church cemetery.

There is no visitation. Friends and family are welcome to a Celebration of Life Reception at Log Still Distillery in New Haven at 1:30 pm. Monday, June 1, 2026.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bluegrass Care Navigators in memory of Theresa Owens.

Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find solace in knowing that Theresa’s faith guided her home to Jesus, where she is now free from pain and at peace. Her love and legacy will continue to inspire and touch all who knew and loved her.
