Donald Lee “Don” Coulter, 85, of Louisville, formerly of Chaplin, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, at Baptist Health Louisville. He was born Dec. 18, 1940, in Chaplin to the late Everett Lee and Anna Mae Martin Coulter.
He was a lifelong farmer and was a retired commercial and private limousine driver. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church, Shriners International and the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge #57 F&AM.
He also proudly served in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed on the USS Intrepid and traveled to five continents. He was a historian, bottle digger and antique collector. He also enjoyed playing cards and traveling, having visited 48 states. He especially enjoyed visits to Yellowstone National Park. More than anything, he was a peaceful, gentle soul that loved his wife and his home.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sandy Sorrell Coulter; one sister, Bonnie Mae Woodrum of Bardstown; two sisters-in-law, Carole S. Pardue and Connie Sorrell, both of Louisville; three nieces, Tonya Pardue Williams (Matt) of Louisville, Sarah McMakin of Bardstown and Amy Hoskins (Chuck) of Arnold, Mo.; one nephew, Tony Coulter (Polly) of Falling Waters, West Va.; eight great-nieces and great-nephews, Lily Abigail Williams, Jonathan Coulter (Rae Ann), Justin Coulter (Melissa), Danielle Brosky, Angela McMakin, Megan McMakin, Lanie Hoskins and Kaitlyn Hoskins.
The funeral is 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Bro. Michael Morris officiating. Burial is in Highview Cemetery at Chaplin.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be Monday at the funeral home.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions in Don’s memory to Kosair for Kids or the charity of your choice.
