Sheriff’s office warns residents to be wary of arrest warrant phone calls

NC GAZETTE / WBRT RADIO
STAFF REPORT

Wednesday, July 3, 2019 — The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is advising the public not to fall for the latest phone call scam that involves the sheriff’s office.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, local residents are receiving phone calls and are told there is a warrant for the individual’s arrest. The information is followed by a request for payment via a credit card or gift card.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office will not call you about a warrant in most cases; if they do call, they will not ask for money. Additionally, a deputy will never ask for money in order to get out of an arrest warrant.

If you have received such a request and provided money, or have questions about the scam, contact Nelson County Dispatch, (502) 348-3211.
