Wednesday, March 4, 2015, 10:30 p.m. — Wednesday evenings sleet and heavy snow quickly made Nelson County roadways slick and hazardous, and kept local law enforcement busy responding to calls for help.
The National Weather Service radar predicts additional heavy snow overnight Wednesday, tapering off by midday Thursday.
The deteriorating road conditions snarled traffic on Springfield Road just west of its intersection with KY 605, with several semi tractor-trailers getting stuck unable to get up the hill.
Conditions on the Bluegrass Parkway were also hazardous, with deputies called to assist numerous vehicles that had skidded off the snow-covered parkway. While the majority of weather-related police calls did not involve injuries, three people were injured in three separate accidents Wednesday.
BOSTON ROAD. One person was injured in a single-vehicle accident on Boston Road near the western end of Hugh Ice Loop Wednesday night.
Nelson County EMS, the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office and the Bardstown Fire Department were dispatched to the area at about 7:22 p.m. for the report of an injury accident with the driver trapped. The victim was not trapped, and firefighters assisted EMS at the scene. EMS transported a 61-year-old woman complaining of hip and leg pain to Flaget Memorial Hospital.
SOUTH FOURTH STREET. One person was injured in an accident in the 400 block of South Fourth Street. Nelson County EMS, Bardstown Police and the Bardstown Fire Department responded to the reported injury accident at 7:53 p.m. Wednesday.
EMS transported a 17-year-old male to Flaget Memorial Hospital with complaints of lower back pain.
EAST JOHN ROWAN. EMS and police were dispatched Wednesday night to the area of East John Rowan and Salem Drive for a two-vehicle injury accident. A 3-month-old infant was taken to Flaget Hospital to be checked out. The child was strapped in a car seat and reportedly began crying after the vehicle she was riding in was struck from the rear. The accident happened at about 9:30 p.m.
