STAFF REPORT

Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, 10 p.m. — Weather spotters across Kentucky are preparing for what may prove to be the year’s first brush with severe weather. While the spring months are considered the optimum time for tornadoes, the squall line approaching Central Kentucky and set to arrive after midnight has a high probability of bringing high winds and will be capable of generating tornadoes.
The line of thunderstorms will move east across Indiana and Kentucky overnight. Damaging winds and isolated tornadoes will be possible with this line of storms, especially west of I-65. Additional threats will be brief heavy rain, hail and cloud-to-ground lightning.
Stay tuned to local media, and the National Weather Service for updates as this storm approaches.
