Thursday, May 14, 2015, 3:50 a.m. — Bardstown Police and the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a series of burglaries of at least three local minit marts early Thursday morning.
At about 2:05 a.m., Bardstown Police were dispatched to the Busy Bee Market, 1401 North Third St. in Bardstown for an active burglar alarm. At 2:10 a.m., deputies with the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the EZ Mart, 6250 Louisville Road (the former In & Out Market) in Cox’s Creek for an active burglar alarm at that location.
Officers found the front doors of both stores had been broken to gain access. A review of the security video of both stores showed a suspect believed to be a black male wearing baggy jeans, a red hooded sweatshirt and white shoes enter both stores and take assorted items. The suspect left the stores and got into a maroon or purple 2006 to 2008 Ford F-150 extended cab pickup truck with tinted windows and step-up bars on each side. Security video indicated that the truck left Busy Bee and headed north on North Third Street in the direction of Cox’s Creek.
The suspect was a passenger in the vehicle; police have no description of the pickup truck’s driver. Security video showed that the pickup truck backed up to the doors of the minit marts and that the truck’s license plate had been removed from the rear.
While officers were investigating the burglaries in Bardstown and Cox’s Creek, Nelson County Dispatch received a report of a similar burglary at the Fairfield Grocery. A deputy sheriff responded to Fairfield to investigate that break-in. While the break-ins were investigated, other officers checked the status of the other minit marts around the county.
The investigation was ongoing as this story was published.
