Rachel Madison, 44, left, went missing Sunday in Florida after she went for a run on the beach. She moved to Florida on Nov. 16 to escape the alleged abuse of her husband, Jarvis Madison, 50, at right.

Rachel Madison, 44, formerly of Bardstown, vanished Sunday while jogging according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. She was staying at her aunt’s Ormond-by-the-Sea home, where she had been since Nov. 16.

Madison’s family told investigators her husband, Jarvis Madison, 50, knew his wife was in Florida at her aunt’s house, and police suspect he may have traveled to Florida and kidnapped her. Police say Jarvis Madison had made threatening phone calls to the aunt’s home and accused her of hiding his wife from him.

Police describe Jarvis Madison, 50, as “violent” and “abusive.” He is believed to be armed with a .45 caliber handgun.

Before the woman fled to Florida, Jarvis Madison is reported to have taken his wife hostage after he learned of her plans to leave him. He is wanted in Indiana on charges he held his wife against her will and fired a shot at her during an altercation. She was able to escape him by taking refuge inside a Walmart store.

While a resident of Nelson County, Rachel Madison was indicted by a Nelson County grand jury in February 2014 on charges of custodial interference after she picked up her two children from a local school and then disappeared on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014.

Kentucky State Police eventually located Rachel Madison and her children unharmed in Bowling Green on Feb. 17, 2014.
