Obituary: Harry Hurst, 89, Cox’s Creek

Harry Hurst, 89, of Cox’s Creek, died Thursday, March 8, 2018. He was born July 15, 1928, to the late Clarence and Mary Spalding Hurst.

HARRY HURST

Harry was a lifelong farmer, and Nelson county businessman, whose love of the land showed every day of his life. For everyone that was acquainted with Harry, knew he was honest, hardworking, and enjoyed his family and friends. Harry was a veteran of the United States Navy, former District 4 Magistrate for 12 years, has served on the North Nelson water board, member of the Knights of Columbus, the Pork Producers Association and of the catholic faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Harry Scott Hurst; four sisters, Jennie Geoghegan, Mary S. Clark, Sabina Swerdfeger and Mary Alice Hurst; eight brothers, Collin Hurst, Billie Hurst, Tom Hurst, Clarence Hurst Jr., Ben Hurst, Edwin Hurst, Gam Hurst, and John Hurst.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Laura Shelburne Hurst, three daughters, Kaye Whitehead of Muncie, Ind., and Marie Rogers and Anne Hurst, both of Cox’s Creek; one son, Chris Hurst of Cox’s Creek; nine grandchildren, Gene Whitehead, Lucy Keller, Harry Rossoll, Laura Leigh Rossoll, Ben Rossoll, Thomas Earl Rogers, Christopher Hurst, Mimi Hurst and Samuel Hurst; and six great-grandchildren.

The family has followed his wishes for a non-ceremonial cremation.

Houghlin Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, is in charge of arrangements.
