STAFF REPORT

Wednesday, May 30, 2018 –– Betty Kelley Hart, 61, of Bardstown, is the first person to file as a candidate for Bardstown City Council this year.

All six city council seats and the office of mayor will be on the Nov. 6, 2018 General Election ballot. They are non-partisan races.

According to the Kentucky State Board of Elections, candidates for city council must be 18 years of age, a resident of the city for not less than 1 year prior to his or her election, a qualified voter in the city, and plan to live in the city during their term of office.

City council members are elected to two-year terms of office. The office of mayor is also on the November ballot, though it is a four-year term.

Of the six current members of the Bardstown City Council, only one has made it clear he does not plan to see re-election. Councilman John Kelly Jr. — Betty Kelley Hart’s ex-husband — said he will not be seeking another term on the city council.

Hart is a Realtor with Demaree & Hubbard real estate in Bardstown.

The filing deadline for the non-partisan races on the November ballot is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14.
