Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, 1:45 a.m. — A man believed to be in his 20s died Sunday morning when his car hit a mailbox, ran off the road, overturned and caught fire. The accident happened about 1:15 a.m. in the 4000 block of Lawrenceburg Road just west of Chaplin. The victim was partially ejected from the vehicle, and bystanders pulled the man free from the vehicle. The Northeast Nelson Fire Department, Nelson County EMS and the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Nelson County coroner.
