Obituary: Fred Gilbert Summey, 77, Birmingham, Ala.

Fred Gilbert Summey, 77, of Birmingham, Ala., died Thursday, May 5, 2016, at his daughter’s home in New Hope. He was born July 31, 1938, in Knoxville to the late Fred and Nellie West Summey. He was a retired operator of Fred and Sons woodworking in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was an elder in the Riverchase Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Birmingham, Ala.

Survivors include his wife, Lynne Summey; one daughter, Tammy Nucci (John) of New Hope; two sons, Rusty Summey (Robbin) of New Hope and David Summey (Shelly) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Tami Seibert (Butch) of Kennesaw, Ga. and Christine Haughaboo (Jeremy) of Alabaster, Ala.; one stepson, Daniel Cooper of Hoover, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Brett Leger and Brandon Leger, Jonathon Summey, Joshua Summey and Jesse Summey, Christopher Gerke and Justin Summey; six stepgrandchildren, Brian and Christopher Seibert, Alyssa and Alexis Harleman, Haylee and Brianna Cooper; eight great-grandchildren.

Cremation was chosen. Services will be held at a later date in Alabama.

The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of local arrangements.
