Veneta K. Hibbs Thompson, 91, of Bardstown, died Friday Jan. 25, 2013, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. She was born April 5, 1921, in Lenore, a homemaker, and a member of New Salem Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Thompson; one son, Barry N. Thompson; three infant sons; his parents, Arch Hibbs and Lena Magruder Hibbs; three brothers, Earl Hibbs, A.V. Hibbs, and Edwin Hibbs; and two sons-in-law, Garland Smith, and Carl Kays.
She is survived by her daughter, Glenda F. Kays of Bardstown; one son, David B. Thompson of Cox’s Creek; one sister, Zella M. Jensen of Chanute, Kansas; five grandchildren, Kelly Tillett, Barry N. Thompson Jr., Nicki Spaugh, Courtney Briney, and Jeremy Thompson; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Barlow Funeral Home, with burial in New Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Frazier officiating.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, 2013, and 9-11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Barlow Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may go to New Salem Baptist Church, New Salem Baptist Cemetery Fund, or Hospice of Nelson County.
