Community chamber orchestra concert set for Friday, May 20

Friday, May 13, 2016 — The Bardstown Community Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Anne Thompson Lusk, will present its Spring 2016 Concert at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 20 at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 211 N. Third Street.

One of the more challenging compositions in the Spring Concert will be the Allegro, or Movement 1, from Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is a highly recognizable piece and people tend to have pre-conceived opinions on how it should be performed.”Lusk explained. “I hope those attending will look favorably on the arrangement we have chosen.

Selections include compositions by Handel, Beethoven, Mozart, Clarence Barber and a relatively new composer, Andy Patterson. Two pieces from “The Lord of the Rings” have been arranged exclusively for the Bardstown Orchestra by Hobart N. Humphrey IV, who serves as the pianist for the group.

There is no admission charge. Donations are welcomed and are used for the acquisition of music for future performances.
