John Edward “Howdy” Dickens, 76, passed away on Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, at Signature Healthcare in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. He was born on Dec. 26, 1949 in Campbellsville, the son of Herbert and Martha Wolford Dicken. John was an Army Veteran of 14 years, where he worked as a petroleum storage specialist. While in the Army, he received numerous medals and ribbons, including a National Defense Service Medal, a good conduct medal, and an overseas service ribbon. John was a huge University of Kentucky fan and loved watching all the ball games. He loved country music and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Johnny Ray Dickens; and two brothers, Ronnie and Jeffrey Dickens.
He is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Schnieder (Kip), and Patricia Kilby (John), all of Campbellsville; former wife and lifelong friend, Suzanne Dickens; brother, Richard Dicken; nine grandchildren, Austin Patton, Brody Schnieder, Kali Schnieder, Tyler Roar, Gwyndolyn Denham, Ezra Denham, Dustin and Skyler Silverman, and Jessie Dickens; four great grandchildren, Kyle and Michael Roar, Lillian Vick, and Brenna Denham. Along with a host of other family members and friends.
Cremation was chosen by the family. Burial of ashes will take place on Monday, Aug. 17, 2026 at 12:30 p.m. at Lebanon National Cemetery.
